News from the P.I.T. (Pastor In Training)
One thing is certain: the Lord's ways are not our ways. He does not always act in the ways we expect.
In our first reading, Elijah is told that the Lord is about to pass by. Imagine hearing those words yourself: "The Lord is about to pass by." We might expect Him to reveal Himself in power and majesty, in the wind, an earthquake, or a fire. Yet the Lord chose to reveal Himself not through these dramatic signs, but in the gentle whisper of a breeze. God often works in quiet, simple, and unexpected ways.
At first glance, today's Gospel seems very different. Jesus walks upon the water in the midst of a storm, a striking manifestation of His divine power. Yet perhaps the most beautiful moment is not Jesus walking on the water, but Peter's simple request: "Lord, if it is you, command me to come to you on the water."
What a beautiful movement of the heart: "Lord, I want to be with You."
Can that become our prayer today? As we celebrate Mass, can we set aside the storms that fill our minds and hearts and simply desire to come to the Lord?
At the beginning of today's Gospel, Jesus has just fed the multitude. He sends His disciples ahead by boat while He remains behind to dismiss the crowd personally. As I've shared before, the feeding of the multitude foreshadows what we celebrate at every Mass. Jesus took the bread, blessed it, broke it, and gave it to the people, and they were satisfied. Those same actions are repeated at every Eucharist.
Today, the Lord desires to satisfy us once again, not through something spectacular in the eyes of the world, but through something humble and seemingly ordinary. Under the appearances of bread and wine, through the words of consecration, Christ becomes truly present in His Body and Blood.
Just as God came to Elijah in the gentle whisper, He comes to us at every Mass in the quiet humility of the Eucharist. He is no less present because He comes so humbly. In fact, His humility invites us to draw even closer to Him.
As we come forward to receive Holy Communion, may we make Peter's prayer our own: "Lord, let me come to You." And may that simple desire, to be with Him, be the prayer that carries us through every storm.

Students, teachers, school staff, and families are invited to join us for a Back-to-School Mass, Blessing & Meal on Wednesday, August 12. Mass begins at 5:00 p.m., during which Fr. Michael will offer a special blessing for everyone beginning a new school year. Following Mass, enjoy a free catered dinner and fellowship in the courtyard at 5:45 p.m.
Whether your children attend Catholic, public, private, or homeschool, all are welcome. Teachers, administrators, aides, and all who serve our students are invited too.

Our Adoration Chapel is open daily from 8:30 AM until 10:00 PM offering a quiet, sacred place to rest in the Lord’s presence, pour out your heart, and simply let Jesus love you.
We are especially in need of a committed adorer on Mondays at 2:00 PM, Tuesdays at 10:00 AM, Wednesdays at 5:00 PM, and Thursdays at 3:00 PM.
Having at least one adorer ensures the chapel can remain open for anyone who feels the nudge to come and pray. When no one is present, the Blessed Sacrament doors must be closed—and we never want Jesus to be left alone.
If a weekly commitment isn’t possible right now, you’re also welcome to sign up as a substitute adorer, helping to cover hours when someone is unable to come; sign up at this link.
Your simple yes helps keep this sacred space open and makes it possible for others to encounter the Lord’s peace and mercy. Thank you for prayerfully considering this beautiful gift of time with Jesus in the Eucharist.
- Did you know that children have a special opportunity to hear and reflect on God's Word at the 10:00 AM Mass each Sunday? Through Children's Liturgy of the Word (CLOW), young parishioners are invited to listen to the Sunday readings and Gospel in an age-appropriate setting designed to help them better understand God's love and His message for their lives. After a brief reflection and prayer, children return to Mass to continue worshipping with their families.

It is with a full and joyful heart to bring to you the news that God has led my wife, Babes and I to make the move to Austin, Texas. This parish has been our second home and we have seen it built brick by brick. We will miss this wonderful and vibrant community. We chose to live close to our daughter and her family, who for years have tried convincing us to move to Texas. Well that time is now, with God's grace and good health we are going to spread our wings down south. Please pray for our 16 hours road trip to Texas this Thursday morning.
We are blessed and very grateful to serve as a Deacon at OLM being a parishioner for 35 years and as an ordained Deacon for 17 years.
Thank you for all our pastors who have gone before us for their for their prayers and support. Also, for our current priests, Fr.Michael and Fr. Vagenas for their love, fidelity, and dedication to the people of OLM. To all my brother deacons and staff for their support.

On Monday, August 24, at 7:30 PM in the Church, our Mondays with Monica & Augustine prayer ministry will gather to pray for the conversion and return of our loved ones, for our own ongoing conversion, and for the peace and hope that only Christ can give.
Inspired by the steadfast faith of St. Monica, whose faithful prayers and witness led to the conversion of her son, St. Augustine, this monthly prayer gathering offers a place of encouragement, hope, and shared prayer for parents, grandparents, spouses, godparents, siblings, relatives, and friends carrying this same intention.
Come spend time with Jesus in prayer, entrust your loved ones to His Sacred Heart, and allow Him to renew your hope as we pray together and wait expectantly for His grace at work.

Guatemala Mission Trip Spaghetti Dinner Fundraiser 9/11

Help Stock the Shelves for the Aurora Interfaith Food Pantry 9/14
- Did you know our parish collects non-perishable food year-round for the Aurora Interfaith Food Pantry? You’ll find three large collection bins in the Parish Life Center (PLC) lobby—just inside the doors, at the bottom of the stairs on the right. Each first Monday of the month, the pantry picks up all donated items to help restock its shelves. You can drop off the items at your convenience anytime.
Since 1981, the Aurora Interfaith Food Pantry serves individuals and families struggling to meet their basic nutritional needs—neighbors who might otherwise go without.
With more people depending on community food programs, your donations make a real difference. - 🛒 Food donations should be unopened and within the printed “use by” or “sell by” dates. The pantry gladly accepts a wide range of items, especially the following:
- Grains: cereal, oatmeal, rice, pasta
Fruits & Vegetables: canned or dried fruits and vegetables. Fresh or home-grown produce may be donated directly to the Aurora Interfaith Food Pantry.
Proteins: canned tuna or chicken, beans (dried or canned)
Ready-to-Make: soups, pasta sauces, pancake and baking mixes, macaroni and cheese
Snacks for Kids: granola bars, crackers, juice boxes, applesauce, peanut butter, jelly
Baby Products: diapers (all sizes), formula, baby food

The Curé Circle: Praying for Our OLM Priests 9/14
- Let's pray for our OLM priests on Monday, September 14, at 7:00 PM in the Church as we gather for the Curé Circle, our monthly time of prayer dedicated to the priests who faithfully shepherd our parish and all priests throughout the Church.
Our priests generously serve us through the celebration of the Holy Mass, the sacraments, the proclamation of the Gospel, and their daily pastoral care. One of the greatest gifts we can offer in return is our faithful prayer.

Beatification of Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen 9/24
- A historic moment for the Catholic Church is coming this September! Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen will be beatified on Thursday, September 24, 2026, at The Dome at America’s Center in St. Louis, Missouri.
Known to millions through his Emmy Award-winning television program Life Is Worth Living, Archbishop Sheen was a gifted evangelist whose love for Jesus Christ, devotion to the Blessed Sacrament, and passion for sharing the Catholic faith continue to inspire people throughout the world.
Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle, serving as the papal representative of Pope Leo XIV, will celebrate the Mass of Beatification at 2:00 p.m.
The day will begin at 8:00 a.m. with the Sheen Expo, Eucharistic Adoration, and Confession. A pre-Mass program featuring a concert and discussions begins at 10:00 a.m., with veneration of Archbishop Sheen’s relics following the Beatification Mass.

Step 3: Pair your headphones or hearing device with your phone (just as you would for calls or music).

Help Stock the Shelves for the Aurora Interfaith Food Pantry 2/2
- Did you know our parish collects non-perishable food year-round for the Aurora Interfaith Food Pantry? You’ll find three large collection bins in the Parish Life Center (PLC) lobby—just inside the doors, at the bottom of the stairs on the right. Each first Monday of the month, the pantry picks up all donated items to help restock its shelves. You can drop off the items at your convenience anytime.
Since 1981, the Aurora Interfaith Food Pantry serves individuals and families struggling to meet their basic nutritional needs—neighbors who might otherwise go without.
With more people depending on community food programs, your donations make a real difference. - 🛒 Food donations should be unopened and within the printed “use by” or “sell by” dates. The pantry gladly accepts a wide range of items, especially the following:
- Grains: cereal, oatmeal, rice, pasta
Fruits & Vegetables: canned, dried, or fresh (including home-grown produce!)
Proteins: canned tuna or chicken, beans (dried or canned)
Ready-to-Make: soups, pasta sauces, pancake and baking mixes, macaroni and cheese
Snacks for Kids: granola bars, crackers, juice boxes, applesauce, peanut butter, jelly
Baby Products: diapers (all sizes), formula, baby food
Personal Care: feminine supplies, over-the-counter medicine, incontinence items
- Grains: cereal, oatmeal, rice, pasta
- Every can, box, and bag helps feed a neighbor in need, your generosity brings hope and nourishment to families right here in our community.
