News From the Parochial Vicar
Dear Brothers and Sisters in the Lord,Today we continue to celebrate what are commonly known as the “summer feasts.” Pentecost, the Holy Trinity last weekend, this weekend we celebrate Corpus Christi, and next Friday we will celebrate the Solemnity of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Beautiful feasts that are all central to our lives as Catholics.
Today we celebrate Corpus Christi; the Body and Blood of our Lord. We celebrate that Jesus desires to be so close to us that he gives us his very self to nourish and sustain us. He promised us that he would remain with us until the end of the age. We know that we can find Jesus in every tabernacle in every Catholic church. We encounter him in every Mass when he gives us his very self in the Eucharist. Not a symbol, not a reminder of what he once did two millennia ago, but right here today, he gives us his body, blood, soul, and divinity. Every time we celebrate Mass, we get a glimpse of eternity, of the heavenly banquet, as we join the Angels and Saints in worshiping the triune God.
May this feast day renew in us a greater love and devotion for Jesus truly present in the Blessed Sacrament. I encourage everyone to make regular visits to our Eucharistic Adoration Chapel. Come spend time, even if just a few minutes, with our Lord in silent adoration.
(The Eucharistic Adoration Chapel is open with the Blessed Sacrament expose Monday through Friday 8:30am through 10pm.)
Also, this weekend we are privileged to celebrate the first Mass of Thanksgiving with one of our newly ordained priests, Father Topher Otieno. Father was ordained Saturday, June 6 along with five other men to the priesthood. It is a great blessing to have one of our own parishioners be ordained a priest to serve the Diocese of Joliet. How appropriate that we celebrate with Father on this feast of Corpus Christi since the Eucharist and the Priesthood are so closely connected. Without the Priest, there would be no Eucharist, and without the Eucharist, there would be no Church!Father Michael and I congratulate Father Otieno and his classmates, Father Bergmann, Father Bogusz, Father Hernandez, Father Luviano, and Father White, on their ordination and pray that through them, many souls will be drawn to the Lord.

Consecration of the United States to the Sacred Heart of Jesus 6/11
- On Thursday, June 11, the Solemnity of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, the bishops of the United States will consecrate our nation to the Sacred Heart as part of the Church's commemoration of the 250th anniversary of the United States.
Through this act of consecration, the bishops seek to renew devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, recognize the kingship of Christ, and invite the faithful to help transform the world through prayer, adoration, and works of mercy.
Catholics across the country are invited to unite in prayer and participate in this historic moment. The consecration will be livestreamed from the Basilica of the National Shrine of Mary, Queen of the Universe in Orlando, Florida.

RESCHEDULED TO JULY 26! OLM's Second Annual Volleyball Tournament 6/14
- Join us for an afternoon of fun, fellowship, and friendly competition at OLM's Second Annual Sand Volleyball Tournament on Sunday, June 14, from 2:00–4:00 PM!
Whether you'd like to play, referee, cheer on a team, or simply enjoy the excitement as a spectator, everyone is welcome. Participants (high school age and older) will be assigned by lottery to one of four teams captained by Fr. Michael Kearney, Deacon Josh White, Glenn Hoormann, or Joe Furrer.
The tournament will take place at the sand volleyball courts north of the Eola Community Center, just a short walk from OLM. Water will be provided, and attendees are welcome to bring snacks or beverages to share.

Come Spend Time with Jesus in the Adoration Chapel

Our Adoration Chapel is open daily from 8:30 AM until 10:00 PM offering a quiet, sacred place to rest in the Lord’s presence, pour out your heart, and simply let Jesus love you.
We are especially in need of a committed adorer on Mondays at 2:00 PM, Thursdays at 9:00 AM and 3:00 PM.
Nearly every hour already has at least one adorer, but having a second person ensures the chapel can remain open for anyone who feels the nudge to come and pray. When no one is present, the Blessed Sacrament doors must be closed—and we never want Jesus to be left alone.
If a weekly commitment isn’t possible right now, you’re also welcome to sign up as a substitute adorer, helping to cover hours when someone is unable to come; sign up at this link.
Your simple yes helps keep this sacred space open and makes it possible for others to encounter the Lord’s peace and mercy. Thank you for prayerfully considering this beautiful gift of time with Jesus in the Eucharist.
- Did you know that children have a special opportunity to hear and reflect on God's Word at the 10:00 AM Mass each Sunday? Through Children's Liturgy of the Word (CLOW), young parishioners are invited to listen to the Sunday readings and Gospel in an age-appropriate setting designed to help them better understand God's love and His message for their lives. After a brief reflection and prayer, children return to Mass to continue worshipping with their families.
- CLOW is available each Sunday during the 10:00 AM Mass, except for a summer break on June 28 and July 5. Sessions will resume July 12. All children are welcome!
EDGE Summer Social 6/15
- Middle school students are invited to kick off the summer with our EDGE Summer Social on Monday, June 15, from 6:30–8:30 PM!
We'll begin by attending the 6:30 PM Mass together before heading to the Parish Life Center for an evening of games, food, fellowship, and tie-dye fun. All tie-dye supplies will be provided. Students who would like to participate should bring a white cotton shirt.
This is a great opportunity for EDGE students to reconnect with friends, build community, and continue growing in faith during the summer months.

- Those who are living with cancer, serious or chronic illness, as well as their caregivers, are invited to join us for a St. Peregrine Prayer Service on Tuesday, June 16, following the 6:30 PM Mass.
Through prayer and the intercession of St. Peregrine, patron saint of those suffering from cancer and other serious illnesses, we will ask the Lord for healing, strength, comfort, and peace for all who are carrying the burden of illness.

Led by OLM security consultant Brian Scopa, this training provides practical strategies to help individuals respond effectively during emergency situations. ALICE (Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, Evacuate) training has been adopted by schools, workplaces, and churches across the country to help people make informed decisions that can save lives.
This training is part of our ongoing commitment to fostering a parish where all feel welcomed, cared for, and safe. Father Michael especially encourages the participation of liturgical ministers, ushers, greeters, ministry leaders, volunteers, families involved in parish activities, and regular Mass attendees.

The Robert H. Weaver Knights of Columbus College Scholarship is now accepting applications through Friday, June 19, 2026.
A total of $2,000 in scholarship awards will be presented to students graduating from high school in 2026 who will be attending a 2-year or 4-year college or university beginning in the Fall of 2026.

Remembering Our Founding Pastor, Fr. Gerald Tivy 6/23 - 6/24
- Our Lady of Mercy mourns the passing of our founding pastor, Father Gerald E. Tivy, who entered eternal life on June 13, 2026.
In 1988, Father Tivy became the founding pastor of Our Lady of Mercy and faithfully led our parish from its earliest days, helping to build both our church and the vibrant parish family we enjoy today. His priestly ministry, love for the sacred liturgy, and dedication to the people of God have left a lasting legacy throughout our parish and the Diocese of Joliet.
We invite all parishioners to join us in prayer and remembrance as we celebrate Father Tivy's life and commend him to the mercy of God.

- The Eucharist is not simply something we believe in. It is Someone we encounter.
At Corpus Christi, we celebrated the incredible gift of the Eucharist and proclaimed our faith that Jesus is truly present among us. But that celebration is not meant to last for only one day. The Lord continually invites us to come to Him, remain with Him, and be transformed by His presence.

- Bishop Dennis Spies invites all parishioners and families throughout the Diocese of Joliet to join him for an exciting day at the NASCAR Cup Series at Chicagoland Speedway on Sunday, July 5.

Help Stock the Shelves for the Aurora Interfaith Food Pantry 7/6
- Did you know our parish collects non-perishable food year-round for the Aurora Interfaith Food Pantry? You’ll find three large collection bins in the Parish Life Center (PLC) lobby—just inside the doors, at the bottom of the stairs on the right. Each first Monday of the month, the pantry picks up all donated items to help restock its shelves. You can drop off the items at your convenience anytime.
Since 1981, the Aurora Interfaith Food Pantry serves individuals and families struggling to meet their basic nutritional needs—neighbors who might otherwise go without.
With more people depending on community food programs, your donations make a real difference. - 🛒 Food donations should be unopened and within the printed “use by” or “sell by” dates. The pantry gladly accepts a wide range of items, especially the following:
- Grains: cereal, oatmeal, rice, pasta
Fruits & Vegetables: canned, dried, or fresh (including home-grown produce!)
Proteins: canned tuna or chicken, beans (dried or canned)
Ready-to-Make: soups, pasta sauces, pancake and baking mixes, macaroni and cheese
Snacks for Kids: granola bars, crackers, juice boxes, applesauce, peanut butter, jelly
Baby Products: diapers (all sizes), formula, baby food
Personal Care: feminine supplies, over-the-counter medicine, incontinence items

High School Teen Mission Trip 7/11 through 7/18
- This July, 53 OLM teens and their adult leaders will travel to Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania to serve those in need through Catholic Heart Workcamp.
During the week, our teens will be the hands and feet of Christ by assisting elderly, disabled, and low-income residents with projects such as painting, yard work, home repairs, cleanup efforts, home improvements, and even the construction of wheelchair ramps. They will also partner with local social service agencies to provide much-needed assistance throughout the community.
While they will be making a difference in the lives of others, our teens will also grow in their faith through daily prayer, the sacraments, service, and Christian community.
We invite the entire parish to keep our teens and chaperones in your prayers as they prepare for this life-changing experience. Please pray that their work will be a blessing to those they serve and that they may encounter Christ in every person they meet.

Children entering 4K through Grade 5 are invited to join us July 27–31 as we journey through a vibrant rainforest filled with cascading waterfalls, towering trees, colorful creatures, and exciting discoveries about God’s love.
Throughout the week, children will experience hands-on science activities, interactive Bible lessons, music, games, crafts, snacks, and opportunities to grow in faith while learning that God is our Creator, our refuge, and our safe place in life's storms.
At Rainforest Falls, kids will discover what it means to be deeply rooted in a relationship with God and learn to recognize His presence in everyday life through "God Sightings®." - Registration is now open at OLMercy.com/VBS. 🎳 Strike Up Some Fun! OLM Bowling League Begins in August
- Looking for a fun way to connect with fellow parishioners? The OLM Mixed Bowling League is a great opportunity to enjoy friendship, laughter, and a little friendly competition one Friday each month.
- No bowling experience is necessary. Whether you're a seasoned bowler or have never picked up a bowling ball before, everyone is welcome. Teams consist of four players, and if you don't have a full team, we'll gladly help place you on one.
- The league meets one Friday per month from August through May (with no bowling in December). The cost is just $20 per person, per month. Now is a great time to sign up for the upcoming season!

Keith's assignment officially begins this summer, his service as a Navy Reserve Chaplain will take him on deployment before he joins us in Spring 2027. Learn more about Fr. Help Stock the Shelves for the Aurora Interfaith Food Pantry 2/2
- Did you know our parish collects non-perishable food year-round for the Aurora Interfaith Food Pantry? You’ll find three large collection bins in the Parish Life Center (PLC) lobby—just inside the doors, at the bottom of the stairs on the right. Each first Monday of the month, the pantry picks up all donated items to help restock its shelves. You can drop off the items at your convenience anytime.
Since 1981, the Aurora Interfaith Food Pantry serves individuals and families struggling to meet their basic nutritional needs—neighbors who might otherwise go without.
With more people depending on community food programs, your donations make a real difference. - 🛒 Food donations should be unopened and within the printed “use by” or “sell by” dates. The pantry gladly accepts a wide range of items, especially the following:
- Grains: cereal, oatmeal, rice, pasta
Fruits & Vegetables: canned, dried, or fresh (including home-grown produce!)
Proteins: canned tuna or chicken, beans (dried or canned)
Ready-to-Make: soups, pasta sauces, pancake and baking mixes, macaroni and cheese
Snacks for Kids: granola bars, crackers, juice boxes, applesauce, peanut butter, jelly
Baby Products: diapers (all sizes), formula, baby food
Personal Care: feminine supplies, over-the-counter medicine, incontinence items
- Grains: cereal, oatmeal, rice, pasta
- Every can, box, and bag helps feed a neighbor in need, your generosity brings hope and nourishment to families right here in our community.
