News From the P.I.T. (Pastor in Training)
In many ways, this desire to jump right to our dessert can mirror the desires in our own spiritual lives. Do we have to wait for the many promises given to us by God in Christ Jesus? We can almost feel the difficulty that Abraham experiences. God promises Abram- whose name would later be changed to Abraham- a great nation, a great name, and worldwide blessing. Yet these things were not going to happen on Abraham’s timeline. It would take many years before his son Isaac was born. Only in later generations would Abraham's line become a great nation under Moses, receive a great dynasty under King David, and ultimately become a worldwide blessing through Christ. Imagine receiving the great promises of God's blessings, only to have to wait!
The Transfiguration is not so different. Christ reveals a glimpse of his glory and power to Peter, James, and John. I imagine that I would have reacted like St. Peter who said, "Can I stay here?" Jesus, of course, redirects the three back down the mountain toward Jerusalem, where he would suffer and die. Each of those disciples would experience his own cross, and two of them would ultimately give their lives in martyrdom.
Lent is an opportunity to acknowledge the wonderful gifts we have received and the promises that have been made to us. At the same time, it reminds us to be patient and surrender to God's timing over our own. Even if we might not see it, the Lord's glory will shine forth in our lives. Let us ask the Lord for the grace to grow in the theological virtues of faith, hope, and love.

- As we enter the second week of our Salt & Light Lenten gathering, we continue our journey through No Greater Love: A Biblical Walk Through Christ’s Passion.
Last week, Session 1 led us into The Prayer of the Agony — Jesus in Gethsemane, where we reflected on Christ’s surrender to the Father in the garden.
This week, we move into Session 2: Are You the Christ? — Jesus’ Arrest and Trial Before the Sanhedrin, exploring the dramatic and deeply revealing moments when Jesus stands accused. We’ll unpack the historical and biblical significance of this trial and what it reveals about who Jesus truly is — and how we are called to respond.
Guided by Edward Sri, this five-week Lenten study opens Scripture in a powerful way, connecting Old Testament prophecy, biblical symbolism, and historical context to the events of Christ’s Passion. It is not simply a study, but a pilgrimage of the heart during this sacred season.

The Rescue Project Thursdays 3/5
- We’re off to an inspiring beginning with The Rescue Project! On February 19 and February 26, our Parish Life Center gym was completely full as parishioners gathered for dinner, teaching, and meaningful conversation.
Week 1 began with a hearty chili dinner lovingly prepared by Gerri Frey and the Babette’s & Christ Servers’ Team, followed by Chapter 1 with Fr. John Riccardo on The Importance of Stories, inviting us to see our lives within the great biblical story. Week 2 brought another incredible meal — Shoorika Patrick’s “Holy Mole Favorites” (chicken and vegetarian mole) — before diving into Chapter 2, Why Is There Something Rather Than Nothing? Together we reflected on the goodness of God, the beauty of creation, and the stunning truth that we are made in His image.
The conversations have been rich, honest, and hope-filled. - There’s still time to join us each Thursday during Lent, 6:30–8:30 PM in the Parish Life Center. Stations of the Cross Fridays During Lent 3/6
- Lent invites us to slow our steps and walk closely with Jesus on the way of the Cross. Each Friday during Lent, our parish will gather to pray the Stations of the Cross, entering more deeply into Christ’s Passion through prayer and reflection.

This Lent, our Stations of the Cross experience will be made even more prayerful and reverent by the beautiful facelift currently underway to the indoor Stations in the narthex. These thoughtful improvements are helping prepare a sacred space that invites deeper reflection as we accompany Jesus on His journey to Calvary.
In addition to our communal prayer times, parishioners are encouraged to pray the Stations anytime throughout the day on Fridays during Lent. Whether during a quiet midday pause or in the evening with the parish community, the Stations are always available for personal prayer.
We also invite you to take advantage of our outdoor Stations of the Cross. When the weather allows, they offer a peaceful opportunity to pray while walking the parish grounds, uniting body, heart, and prayer in the spirit of Lent.

Our Adoration Chapel is open daily from 8:30 AM until 10:00 PM offering a quiet, sacred place to rest in the Lord’s presence, pour out your heart, and simply let Jesus love you.
We are especially in need of a committed adorer on Thursdays at 3:00 PM.
Nearly every hour already has at least one adorer, but having a second person ensures the chapel can remain open for anyone who feels the nudge to come and pray. When no one is present, the Blessed Sacrament doors must be closed—and we never want Jesus to be left alone.
If a weekly commitment isn’t possible right now, you’re also welcome to sign up as a substitute adorer, helping to cover hours when someone is unable to come; sign up at this link.
Your simple yes helps keep this sacred space open and makes it possible for others to encounter the Lord’s peace and mercy. Thank you for prayerfully considering this beautiful gift of time with Jesus in the Eucharist.
Weekend Mass Penitential Rite During Lent 3/7, 3/8, 3/14, 3/15, 3/21, 3/22, 3/28, 3/29
- During Lent, we will be using a different form of the Penitential Rite at our Daily and Weekend Masses to help deepen our spirit of repentance and renewal. This adaptation calls us to reflect on our need for God’s mercy and prepare our hearts for the Paschal mystery. Let us enter into this sacred season with openness, seeking God’s grace as we pray together:

The Relics of the Saints at St. Anne 3/9

- For some, the idea of preserving relics may seem unusual. Yet from the earliest days of Christianity, Catholics have lovingly safeguarded the remains and personal items of the saints as sacred reminders of eternal life. The bodies of the saints, especially the martyrs who followed Christ even unto death, point us to the hope of the Resurrection and our communion with the Risen Lord.
- An informative and inspiring evening on the Church’s tradition of relics will be presented by Fr. William De Salvo, Pastor of Saints Peter and Paul Church in Naperville. Father will share the history and meaning behind relics and bring several from his own collection, spanning the 2,000-year history of our Catholic faith.

MAGNIFY Adoration 3/25
- Lent invites us to re-center our lives, setting aside distractions so we can listen more attentively to the voice of God. A Lenten MAGNIFY on Wednesday, March 25, offers a prayerful midweek moment to do just that. Join us for an evening of Eucharistic Adoration, worship, Scripture reflection by Fr. Michael, Confession, and prayer ministry as we gaze upon Jesus truly present in the Eucharist.
This sacred pause in the middle of the week draws us out of striving and into trust. Rather than doing more, we come to be still, to open our hearts, and to allow the Holy Spirit to renew us and gently lead us back to the Father. MAGNIFY becomes a meaningful Lenten rhythm of repentance, healing, and deeper communion with Christ.
Families are warmly welcome. Whether you stay for the entire evening or stop by briefly, come and rest in the Lord’s presence, and consider inviting a friend to share in this time of prayer. A holy pause in the middle of the week. Hearts turned back to God. Jesus at the center.

Help Stock the Shelves for the Aurora Interfaith Food Pantry 4/6
- Did you know our parish collects non-perishable food year-round for the Aurora Interfaith Food Pantry? You’ll find three large collection bins in the Parish Life Center (PLC) lobby—just inside the doors, at the bottom of the stairs on the right. Each first Monday of the month, the pantry picks up all donated items to help restock its shelves. You can drop off the items at your convenience anytime.
Since 1981, the Aurora Interfaith Food Pantry serves individuals and families struggling to meet their basic nutritional needs—neighbors who might otherwise go without.
With more people depending on community food programs, your donations make a real difference. - 🛒 Food donations should be unopened and within the printed “use by” or “sell by” dates. The pantry gladly accepts a wide range of items, especially the following:
- Grains: cereal, oatmeal, rice, pasta
Fruits & Vegetables: canned, dried, or fresh (including home-grown produce!)
Proteins: canned tuna or chicken, beans (dried or canned)
Ready-to-Make: soups, pasta sauces, pancake and baking mixes, macaroni and cheese

News from the Diocese
- A New Chapter for our Diocese
- As you may have already heard, our Diocese has entered a new season of leadership. Dennis E. Spies has been appointed Apostolic Administrator of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Joliet, effective February 6, 2026. In this role, he will shepherd our Diocese as we prayerfully await the appointment of our next bishop.
Bishop Spies has served our local Church faithfully for many years, most recently as Auxiliary Bishop and Vicar for Clergy. Ordained in 2002, he has ministered as a pastor, seminary formator, and diocesan leader, known for his pastoral heart, steady leadership, and deep care for priests and parish communities alike.
As Apostolic Administrator, he will oversee the day-to-day governance of the Diocese, support ministries, and ensure continuity of pastoral care for nearly half a million Catholics across our seven counties.
In his own words:
“I am humbled by the trust placed in me and remain committed to serving the people of God in the Diocese of Joliet with faith, integrity, and hope. Together, we will continue to proclaim the Gospel, strengthen our parishes, and accompany one another as disciples of Jesus Christ.”
This is a moment of gratitude and trust. The mission of the Church continues. The Gospel continues to be proclaimed. And the Holy Spirit continues to guide.

Help Stock the Shelves for the Aurora Interfaith Food Pantry 2/2
- Did you know our parish collects non-perishable food year-round for the Aurora Interfaith Food Pantry? You’ll find three large collection bins in the Parish Life Center (PLC) lobby—just inside the doors, at the bottom of the stairs on the right. Each first Monday of the month, the pantry picks up all donated items to help restock its shelves. You can drop off the items at your convenience anytime.
Since 1981, the Aurora Interfaith Food Pantry serves individuals and families struggling to meet their basic nutritional needs—neighbors who might otherwise go without.
With more people depending on community food programs, your donations make a real difference. - 🛒 Food donations should be unopened and within the printed “use by” or “sell by” dates. The pantry gladly accepts a wide range of items, especially the following:
- Grains: cereal, oatmeal, rice, pasta
Fruits & Vegetables: canned, dried, or fresh (including home-grown produce!)
Proteins: canned tuna or chicken, beans (dried or canned)
Ready-to-Make: soups, pasta sauces, pancake and baking mixes, macaroni and cheese
Snacks for Kids: granola bars, crackers, juice boxes, applesauce, peanut butter, jelly
Baby Products: diapers (all sizes), formula, baby food
Personal Care: feminine supplies, over-the-counter medicine, incontinence items
- Grains: cereal, oatmeal, rice, pasta
- Every can, box, and bag helps feed a neighbor in need, your generosity brings hope and nourishment to families right here in our community.
